Modest stakes for me today as backing more " rags " than usual -

1.50 Newmarket - ATALANTA'S BOY - Nicely bred sort and the stable does have newcomers run well at big prices. Luke Morris rides for the first time for the yard and a big run at 100's would not be a huge surprise.

4.05 Fairyhouse - WHATSINTHECORNER - Modest hurdler might be a generous assessment, but certainly not a no - hoper. Chase debut today and simply could not resist the 150's on offer.

5.50 Fairyhouse - TRUE SELF - One of a myriad of Mullins runners and of definite interest off just 10 - 2. Possible " dark horse " at 25's.

6.40 Turffontein - BURGUNDY ROSE - Draw 12 of 12 looks fine here and does possess plenty of speed. Not so good in last 2, but fairly consistent prior to that and is down to a decent looking mark of 52. No prices available yet, but forecast to go off somewhere in the 33's range.

5.30 Turffontein - COSMIC MIST - Runs 1 & 3 offer hope, but runs 2 & 4 no good. Remains in Maiden company, but mark of 64, does not leave him that much to find in this field and certainly has plenty of scope. Trainer's only runner on the card today and definite EW interest at 28's.

6.05 Turffontein - ATTENBOROUGH - Has gone well fresh in the past and for me is up to this sort of company at 7's.

7.15 Turffontein - ROMANY PRINCE - Down to 104 after being well beaten last time, but that was a decent race against a useful sort. Interesting back in handicap company at 16's.

7.50 Turffontein - COUNT TASSIMO - Arrives here in fair nick and looks dangerous at 5's, getting weight from all his main rivals.

8.25 Turffontein - PURDEY and BANANA REPUBLIC - Looks to be a ton of pace in this race, so hard to back any of the prominent runners. 16 runners left in at time of writing, so not a bad race for an EW bet and would be surprised if one / both are not finishing well at 20's and 25's respectively.

7.50 Fairyhouse - MADERA EXPRESS - Solid effort last time behind a subsequent Festival runner - up and the trainer always a danger in this sphere. Could easily get involved at 16's.

3 NR's so wrong with the price. Was available at 16's earlier, but opened 14's and now down to 9's

The money for Burgundy Rose proved correct and won quite nicely having been up there all the way

RP placed at 16's and CT 2nd at a drifting 7's. Got beat by one of the outsiders and pretty sure the jockey would like a do - over

Both got the toe into the race that they needed, but BR was a bit of a disappointment. Purdey was disappointing in a different way, coming 2nd at a drifting 33's. For me Devin Habib started his run too late and just did not give himself his best chance.

Bit better than I thought in the 8.25. Purdey ended up returning 40's and Banana Republic actually snuck into 4th for the place money
